Keto certified and keto-friendly. What’s they deal?

Brands that use these flimsy, scientifically unsupported designations like “keto-certified” or “keto-friendly” are relying on the fact that most shoppers aren’t reading the nutrition facts panel and ingredient lists to know what they’re actually eating.

Basically they’re hopping on the so-called “low-carb-train” a popular diet trend, to confuse consumers.

What does it mean when a product is keto?

Keto has been a top trending diet on Google since about 2018. From packaged snacks to cheese chips and protein bars. Sometimes it seems like you can’t get away from supermarket aisles packed with products marketing themselves as keto-friendly!

So many “healthy” brands are jumping on the keto bandwagon, but how many of them really are offering healthy alternatives?

What is the ketogenic diet?

The term “ketogenic diet” was coined by Dr.Russell Morse Wilder of the Mayo Clinic. His research into ketonemia, a diet that produced a high level of ketone bodies in the bloodstream through a lack of carbs and an excess of fats, was found to have a beneficial effect on weight loss.

Also referred to as ketosis, this is a metabolic state achieved by the body when its deprived of carbohydrates. Without carbs as fuel, the body uses stored fat reserves to create energy, which contributes to fat loss, which equals weight loss.

So a so-called “keto” food is basically one which puts the body into ketosis, which means that it’s low-carb.

But how low does low have to be? And just because a product is low-carb what impact does this have on glucose levels?

Are all keto products certified?

Ketogenic Certified differs from the rest of the industry-approved certifications because it’s the only Ketogenic Certification company that tests products to crucially ensure that products WON’T cause a spike in glucose the minute someone is kicked out of a state of ketosis.

With a state-of-the-art 21,000 square feet research facility and laboratory, Ketogenic Certified is doing amazing work, testing products, including the Simply Delish range, to determine what their true ketogenicty is.

At Simply Delish, we are proud to be officially Ketogenic Certified and uphold important industry standards. It also crucially gives us confidence that our products have been tested against a critical set of metabolic markers.

With Ketogenic Certification comes a seal of approval for us as a business, but also the assurance for consumers, that they can continue to indulge in delish desserts without fear that their blood sugar levels will spike or ketone levels will drop.

It’s why we went through this additional certification process; so that we can continue to deliver increased consumer trust in the health credentials of our Simply Delish guilt-free product range.

What does being Ketogenic Certified mean?

It means snack products must not contain more than 6g net/effective carbohydrates per serving. While meal and meal replacement products must not contain more than 10g net/effective carbohydrates.

It also means that there is a comprehensive list of disallowed ingredients, which includes artificial sweeteners and artificial flavors, that must also be adhered to.

Our Simply Delish range has met and surpassed the keto-industry required standards. But importantly, thanks to transparent and rigorous scientific research-backed testing, you know that you can trust our brand to deliver on its promises and all that delish taste you love so much.

Take, for example, our Jel Desserts – which only 5 calories and 0g Net Carbs and available in Strawberry, Raspberry, Peach, Orange, Lime, Black Cherry and unflavored.

Or what about our Simply Delish Instant Puddings? Our latest flavour, Butterscotch Pudding, contains just 3g of net carbs. It’s smooth, decadent and richly delish yet still contains zero sugar. No wonder customers are calling this the “BEST Flavor EVERRR!!!”.  Our other puddings flavors are Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry & Banana, all equally as tasty and of course ketogenic certified.

Is keto FDA regulated?

While currently, the FDA does not regulate the terms “ketogenic” or “keto” that go onto food labels, recognised and accredited companies like Ketogenic Certified do. So you can shop our range of Instant Puddings and Jel desserts confidently, and look forward to enjoying a sweet treat that won’t kick you out of ketosis.

We hope this blog has helped educate you to appreciate just how tasty but also guilt-free our range of delicious desserts is but also, crucially, why being Ketogenic Certified provides our range with added legitimacy.

We’re excited for you to try out more of our Keto Certified range.
